Dance : Tutorial With Rosie

I made a note of the tasks and advice that we got from tutorial :

  • Look at schedule for studio as may be booked out for grad films
  • Get class mates on board and ask for help from them on set
  • Colour and light things very blue (like water)
  • Ask Simon, David and Anne about how to go about shooting and editing
  • Effective use of white balance
  • Could use after effects for waves and ripples - may be too cheesy and not look realistic - can this be used in any way to represent something?
  • Highlight with a bit of flare on the camera when shooting
Rosie also recommended we look at Consolation Service (1999) by Eija-Liisa Ahtila, which shows the public divorce of a couple, narrated by the couples neighbour.

Reflections

After the tutorial we asked Simon about how shooting underwater and whether it would be possible to do it in a studio and after effects in afterwards. He suggested that it wouldn't be very possible and that we would be better actually filming underwater. This has got us worried about sorting this out and how we could actually get to film underwater. We've done a bit of research into it at lunch and it may be quite costly which worries us as well. Although saying that all of us are very excited about the prospect of filming underwater as it would be a very different way than anything we've done before. At the minute we're looking more into it and maybe we'll be able to actually carry it out!

Plan for the next few days
  • Finish conceptualising poem individually and discuss
  • Research more into getting equipment and shooting underwater
  • Start looking for dancers
  • Contact ACM to ask for music - send poem, video, our final analysis of poem, ideas
